Homemade White Bread
5 1/2 to 6 cups of all-purpose flour, divided 2 packages of dry yeast 1 cup of milk 1 cup of water 2 tablespoons of sugar 2 tablespoons of oil 2 teaspoons of salt oil
In a bowl, stir together 2 cups flour and yeast; set aside. In a saucepan, heat milk, water, sugar, 2 tablespoons oil, and salt to lukewarm (110ºF.). Add liquid ingredients to flour-yeast mixture; beat until smooth. Stir in additional remaining flour to make a soft dough. Turn onto lightly floured board and knead until smooth, about 5 to 10 minutes. Cover dough and let rest 20 minutes. Punch down and form into a loaf. Place in a greased 9-inch loaf pan; brush with oil. Let rise until doubled in bulk, about 30 to 45 minutes. Bake in preheated 400ºF. oven 35 to 40 minutes. Remove from pan immediately; brush with oil and cool on wire rack. Makes 1 loaf.
