| Cinnamon Braid
2 pkg. yeast 1/4 cup of warm water Sugar 2 teaspoons of salt 1/4 cup of shortening 11 cup of milk, scalded 5 cups (about) of flour 2 eggs 4 tablespoons of melted butter Cinnamon
Dissolve the yeast in warm water. Mix 1/2 cup of sugar, salt, shortening and milk in a large bowl and cool to lukewarm. Add the flour and mix well. Add yeast and eggs and beat well. Add enough flour to make a soft dough and knead until smooth and satiny. Place in a bowl and cover. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Punch down and let rest for 10 minutes. Place 2 tablespoons of melted butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of water each in two 4 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch loaf pans. divide dough in half. Divide each half into 3 parts and roll each part into 20 inch long strips. Roll in cinnamon and braid 3 strips together. Tuck under ends and fit in loaf pans. Brush tops with additional milk and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Let rise until doubled in bulk, Bake at 375ºF. for 35 minutes. |
